SHOT Show 2017: Black Cloud FliteControl FLEX Now Good With All Chokes

You can now shoot Black Cloud FliteControl FLEX with all chokes, as the newly engineered brake fins on the wad open from the rear and remain deployed. The new wad has slits to allow air flow and reinforced gussets on the rear fins to hold them in place when deployed, which means the payloads separate exactly when they’re supposed to, regardless of gas pressure behind them.

FliteControl wad and FliteStopper pellets have a reputation for delivering lethal patterns waterfowl enthusiasts want. The shotgun shell provides a combination of 60 percent premium steel pellets to create denser patterns and then they add 40 percent FliteStopper pellets, which are made with a cutting ring running the circumference of the pellet. The new wad design, with a built-in brake system, separates the wad from the shot at an optimal time to improve pattern density. The big news is you could not use the original Black Cloud with a ported choked or with any type of wad-stripping choke designed to improve pattern density. The new FliteControl FLEX can now be used in any shotgun, including those with ported, full and wad-stripping chokes.

Federal also made changes to the primer and powder improving ignition in any weather to reduce temperature-related variations in velocities. To top things off the clean-burning powder means less fouling issues and easier clean up of guns and components. The new Black Cloud FliteControl FLEX will be available in High Velocity and Close Range options in 10-, 12- and 20-gauge loads in BB, 2, 3 and 4 shot sizes. The MSRP is $17.49 to $29.99.
