Two bills introduced in North Carolina’s legislature, House Bill 559 and Senate Bill 677, may bring about several positive changes for hunters in the state if signed into law.

HB 559 would allow the Wildlife Resources Commission to study the impact of hunting of migratory game birds on Sunday, which could potentially open the door for adding migratory birds to the list of game already permitted to be hunted on Sundays. The bill would also grant access to available public land to be hunted on Sunday. As it stands, North Carolina does not allow hunting of migratory birds to occur on Sunday, and limits permitted Sunday hunting to private land.

The second bill, Senate Bill 677, would add the right to hunt and fish to the state’s constitution. This protection is something states around the country have started implementing to ensure hunting traditions are preserved for future generations.
