Instinct Sideplate OU Shotgun

For 2023, Franchi has sweetened the Sideplate lineup by adding a pair of new sub-gauge models to the family—the Instinct Sideplate 16-Gauge and Instinct Sideplate 28-Gauge. Sideplate-style shotguns take shooters back to when European gunsmiths designed firearms to capture the eye and imagination, while still providing a second-to-none shooting experience. Showcasing sleek lines, lustrous AA-Grade walnut, gold-inlaid game scenes and blued barrels, this new duo promises both handling and balance when shouldered.

The shotguns in 16- and 28-gauge come chambered in both 2¾ and 3 inches. The former weights in at 6.7 pounds, while the latter tips the scales at 6.1. Each gun also sports auto ejectors, barrel selectors, an auto safety and five extended chokes (C, IC, M, IM, and F), not to mention a custom-fitted hard case for safe transport to and from the field. Length of pull sits at 14¼ inches, drop at heel at two inches and drop at comb at 1½ inches. Grips are in the Prince of Wales style, while the fore-end is of the Schnabel design.

Hardware Review: Marlin Model 1895 Dark

If you think lever-action rifles should only have walnut stocks and a blued-metal finish, then the new Marlin Dark series with its polymer buttstock and aluminum AR-esque handguard probably won’t be your thing. That’s a shame, because this recent offering in Marlin’s line of modernized, capable lever-action rifles has a lot going for it in terms of performance, functionality and fun.
