Shooting Sports USA Managing Editor Chip Lohman has collaborated on a book that takes a contentious debate-private gun ownership in America, and moves it into the classroom. Released on Aug. 20, Lohman intends for "NRA... The Rest of the Story" to be a resource that shooting sports enthusiasts can enjoy and then pass on, furthering the cause along the way.

" We often turn to our friends for the best advice," Lohman said. "The idea of this little $8 book is to use that to advantage, and to ask shooting sports enthusiasts to pass the book along for others to read, especially those who may be on the fence about firearms."

According to Lohman, the motivation for the project was to offset misquotes and negative press about the shooting sports, firearms and the NRA with a small, fact-filled resource that is short and to the point on topics missed by mainstream media. The illustrated book takes the reader on a virtual tour of the NRA including the Competitive Shooting Division, Education and Training Division. Law Enforcement's Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program and the National Firearm Museum.

Heavily documented in the book are facts about the effect of Hollywood on the public's perception of firearms, the high level of safety attributed to the shooting sports, the most current numbers of gun owners versus crimes committed with a firearm, clarification of existing laws and misused terms, as well as a brief overview of NRA's contributions to land conservation, firearms safety, education and sports over the last 143 years.

"NRA... The Rest of the Story" will initially be available through Amazon.com. It can be purchased here.
