This week on #SundayGunday, we’re taking a look at the Maven RS.2 Ultralight riflescope, a 2-10x38mm, Second Focal Plane (SFP) riflescope perfect for the hunter looking to maximize performance out of a small, light package. That massive, 2-10x zoom ratio is good enough to cover a wide range of hunting scenarios, from near-snap shots in the thick brush, out to 400 odd yards on the proper rifle. Its second focal plane design allows the reticle to be used for precise calculations at full power, while still remaining large enough to be useful at lower magnifications.

Speaking of reticles, the RS.2 comes with either a standard MOA duplex reticle for more general use, or an SHR reticle, also in MOA, for those looking for more long-range precision. The SHR reticle at full magnification has marks for 5, 10 and 20 MOA of holdover, along with 5, 10 and 20 MOA of windage. This makes the scope capable of incredible precision at range, despite not being equipped with ballistic turrets. All this functionality is packed into a scope that tips the scales at just 12 ounces, and boasts exceptional clarity, with a phase correction coating on its Extra Low Dispersion ED Glass, and a waterproof and fog-proof construction.

Zeroing adjustments are in standard, ¼-MOA clicks. For more information on the RS.2, which retails for $550, visit mavenbuilt.com. And for more #SundayGunday, check out our playlist on YouTube, where all previous episodes are archived.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
