On this week's #SundayGunday, we’re checking out the Savage Model 110 Ultralight Elite, one of the company’s best combinations of light weight and precision to date. Based around the legendary 110 action, the Model 110 Ultralight elite takes advantage of the MDT HNT26 chassis, and a PROOF Research Carbon Fiber wrapped stainless steel barrel to drop the weight down to around an astonishing 6 pounds, for all models.

At just 26 ounces, the HNT 26 chassis is constructed of H-219 magnesium alloy and carbon fiber, for the ultimate in both stiffness and lightness. Its foam-filled buttstock with spacers allows for an adjustable length-of-pull, along with an adjustable comb. It even folds with the simple press of a button, for easier stowage in a pack. Full length ARCA rail along the bottoms of the fore-end allows the gun to be quickly attached to any number of bipods and tripods, while M-Lok slots and QD mounts all along its length allow the additional attachment of slings and other accessories, though traditional sling swivel studs are also included. A near vertical carbon-fiber grip allows for a 90-degree trigger press, and also won’t freeze your hand off when the mountains get cold. A thumb shelf is included for additional comfort when taking your shot.

The gun’s smooth 110 action is fed by a flush-fit magazine, to reduce snags. The trigger is Savage’s Accutrigger, user adjustable from 1.5 to 4 pounds, and crisp in every pull weight. A one piece, 20-MOA rail sits atop the action for the easy mounting of an optic, though it is attached by 8-40 screws, should you wish to remove it for a lighter weight option. Beneath, a diamond fluted bolt runs fast and smooth, actuated by a carbon-fiber bolt handle, threaded on by 5/16x24 TPI threads. Out front, the muzzle sports 5/8x24 TPI threads for the easy attachment of a muzzle brake, though the gun does ship with a muzzle brake. For more information on the Savage 110 Ultralight elite, which retails for $3299 and comes with barrel lengths between 18 and 22 inches, visit savagearms.com.
