There is nothing that gets my blood pumping more than hearing a turkey gobble ring out on an early spring morning. Even hearing a gobbler in a video will grab all my attention. I just watched one such video describing a new online course for turkey hunters, Calling is Everything, that is being offered by legendary caller Ray Eye. Although the course technically started on March 3, 2014, you can still sign up and access the course materials. For $97 you have access to hunting videos that Ray explains in great detail, lifetime access to all course materials, web seminars (hosted by Ray) on calling and lifetime access to added webinars of the permanent collection.

Why should you bother paying almost $100 for a class on calling when there are a plethora of free videos on YouTube? Ray Eye, the professor, is known as one of the best turkey hunters in the world. In the words of Mark Strand, Ray Eye has “more than 50 years of real-world experience in every place that wild turkeys live, Ray has been called ‘America’s premier turkey hunter,’ by the Wall Street Journal. He was named a ‘Great Outdoor Legend,’ by Outdoor Life magazine. He has been inducted into the ‘Legends of the Outdoors’ Hall of Fame as well.”

All I needed to know was that he taught my personal turkey-hunting mentor, and that was enough of an endorsement for me!

Check out the video below for more details on the course, or visit EyesontheOutdoors.com.

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued? Science Behind Mountain Lion Management and Hunting

Across North America, agencies responsible for the conservation and management of native mammals, including large carnivores, employ science-based tools to manage wildlife populations. It’s a delicate balance too often compromised by emotion at the ballot box.
