Weatherby has announced the pending release of its new Vanguard Leupold Package, the latest offering in the company's venerable Vanguard line, which originally debuted in the 1970s. As the package's name suggests, it will include both a rifle and an optic, in this case the Leupold VX-2 3-9X 40 mm riflescope.
A utilitarian design of sorts, the Vanguard is known for throwing out the bells and whistles in favor of outright functionality. The reliable Vanguard action is attached to a rugged, gray "Griptonite" synthetic stock with black panels in the pistol grip and forend. The stock has Weatherby's signature Monte Carlo-style raised comb to help align the shooter's eye with the optic.
As with many of its models, Weatherby guarantees that the Vanguard will produce a three-shot group measuring .99-inch or less at 100 yards, when shooting premium ammunition from a cold barrel. The Leupold VX-2, meanwhile, is mounted in Talley designed, lightweight Vanguard mounts and bore sighted by a Weatherby gunsmith.
The Vanguard Leupold Package should already be on the way to dealer's shelves. It ships with an MSRP of $1,049, and should be able to be found at any authorized Weatherby dealer.
